A15 MAVA
Description
A-Lanes A15 (Strukton, Ballast Nedam, John Laing and Strabag) stands for design, construction, financing and maintenance of sustainable infrastructure solutions that will guarantee maximum traffic flow and safety on the Maasvlakte - Vaanplein A15 section, both during and after construction. The A15 is an important link between the expanding Rotterdam port and industrial area and the European hinterland. The contract has a duration of 25 years and a total nominal project value of around €1.5 billion. This makes the A15 MaVa project the largest contract ever put out to tender by Rijkswaterstaat.
The project involves the capacity expansion and management of about 37 km of the A15 national road between the Maasvlakte and the Vaanplein interchange. The capacity expansion includes:
- The construction of additional lanes and traffic management systems, greatly improving traffic flow and safety on the A15;
- The construction of a new movable bridge to replace the current Botlek Bridge over the Old Maas, relieving shipping of a bottleneck. The new Botlek Bridge will have two passages of about 90 m each and will be about 14 m above the water. This is twice as high as the current bridge for crossing road and rail traffic, reducing the need to open the new bridge. The new Botlek Bridge, which can open to a height of 45 m, will be one of the largest movable bridges in the world.
- The management and maintenance of the A15, including technical installations, the bridges and viaducts, and two road tunnels (Botlek and Thomassen
