The first Culture and Technology inspiration session will take place at KIVI on Thursday afternoon, 6 July. The meeting is a collaboration between KIVI and the Open University's Faculty of Cultural Studies.

The aim of this afternoon is to inform, get engineers interested in history and/or philosophy thinking and, above all, inspire.

In the first part of the programme, two short lectures will be given by Jaap van Till and Jac van den Broek from the KIVI departments 'History of Technology' and 'Philosophy & Technology'. After the break, the Open University will take over and two case studies will be used to discuss the impact that technology has had and still can and will have on culture and vice versa. Fascinating lessons from the past and stimulating philosophical questions will be reviewed.

Looking to the future

Central to this inspiration session is a look to the future. Together, we will reflect on the role of the engineer in the future from a historical and philosophical perspective. In this way, we try to inspire each other and bring science and practice together. After the inspiration session, you can join us for drinks, which will provide an opportunity to chat with other participants. During the drinks, we are also happy to receive feedback from participants for more inspiration sessions in the future.
