About KIVI Hydrocarbon Technologies & Energy Transition

The Hydrocarbon Technologies & Energy Transition department organises activities for KIVI members working in or otherwise connected to the oil or gas industry. The department's programme of activities, consisting mainly of lectures and excursions, covers the whole area of oil and gas exploration, production and processing. Questions, comments and/or remarks concerning the web pages of the Hydrocarbon Technologies & Energy Transition section can be sent to ht@kivi.nl.

Objectives of the department

  • Promoting knowledge related to science, technology and economics of the oil and gas industry in a broad sense, both in the field of exploration and extraction and processing.
  • Organising activities, such as excursions and lectures, that promote knowledge exchange and mutual communication between engineers.
  • Maintaining a network of contacts between OG members and with companies and institutions involved in the oil and gas industry.

Unique position within KIVI

OG is unique within KIVI. In fact, it is not a specialist department but a department that aims to bring together all engineers who work, or have worked, within the oil and gas industry. Because it is not a true professional department, OG members are often also members of other KIVI departments, such as the Offshore Technology (OT), Process Technology (PR) and Mining (MB) departments. Lectures and excursions are regularly organised together.

History

The predecessor of the Oil and Gas Technology Department, the Petroleum Engineering Department, was founded on 21 August 1936. The immediate reason for its establishment was "to represent Dutch engineers towards foreign countries". This was related to the "World Petroleum Congress" held in London in 1933. OG is still involved in the organisation of this congress through the Dutch National Committee for World Petroleum Congresses.

Activities

The department organises six to seven events, lectures or excursions every year. It tries to strike a good balance between technical topics and more strategic ones, between 'Upstream', 'Midstream' and 'Downstream', and between gas and oil topics.

The lectures usually take place in the KIVI building in The Hague. They start at 7.30pm. Afterwards, there is an opportunity to exchange views with the speakers. Lectures are held in Dutch or English. There will be no admission charge. OG members will receive invitations to the events via e-mail. The events are also announced on the KIVI website and on the department's website. This website is also a platform for news from the oil and gas industry. Here you will also find links to magazines, other associations, and the sites of all major oil and gas companies, contractors and suppliers.
