®60: Rules for disruption
Description
Rules for Disruption, lessons from the history of contrarian design
A story about design history and the insights we can use from it in design practice. Drawing on well-known conceptual design movements such as Memphis, Droog Design and Surrealism, handles can be created for designing meaningful products in a postmodern world. After all, in this, according to French cultural philosopher Baudrillard, the image one has or forms of a product has now become more important than the product itself. Through a methodical perspective on the 'contrarian' part of twentieth-century design history, an alternative to the dogmatic design rules of modernism is generated. Five contrarian 'design handles' thereby offer inspiration for contemporary designers to apply evocation of meaning and playing with associations in design practice
