In the lecture series on space adaptation, Rob van Dortland (KNMI) and Wilfried ten Brinke (Blueland) gave lectures on climate change at Se7en in Utrecht on 12 April. Rob presented the observed climate changes in a historical perspective and the translation to KNMI's climate models, which in turn form the input for climate scenarios and all policy discussions. Wilfried talked about his huge literature studies on the changing climate and its sensitivities and consequences for Europe. The room was well filled, Rob and Wilfried's enthusiastic stories led to sharp questions and a lively discussion. In short, a successful evening!

Description

The Land Use and Water Management Department is organising a lecture series on spatial adaptation. Themes to be covered include climate change, heat stress, drought, flooding and flood safety, water quality and governance.

The first lecture in this series is on Climate Change. After all, this is the cause and starting point for the Delta Programme on Spatial Adaptation. But what exactly are climate changes influenced by?

This lecture will take place on Thursday evening 12 April in Utrecht. The speakers on this evening are Rob van Dorland of KNMI and Wilfried ten Brinke of Blueland. Rob van Dorland will discuss observed changes in the climate, KNMI's climate scenarios and climate models. Wilfried ten Brinke will take you on a journey through Europe in a changing climate. He will show the differences in vulnerabilities to the effects of climate change, from north to south and east to west, and how different regions can best cope with this, according to scientists.
