Online look at dike at research Grass on sand
Dear peers,
On behalf of Waterschap Drents Overijsselse Delta, we would like to invite you to take an online look at the dike during research Grass on Sand.
Currently, the turf on the sandy Vecht dykes between Dalfsen and Zwolle is being severely tested. The Drents Overijsselse Delta Water Board, together with the HWBP, Deltares, Infram and Radboud University Nijmegen, is investigating how strong the turf on sand dykes is. For these studies, there is a test set-up on the dike to simulate wave overtopping and wave overtopping. This is how we study when the dike's grass revetment breaks down.
Why this study?
The aim of the study is to create a national calculation rule to determine the strength of the grass cover on sand dikes. If in practice the turf is stronger than we currently think, replacing the turf on the dike can be limited. That will save on the costs of dike reinforcement projects involving sandy dikes - just like the Vecht. We are therefore applying the results straight away in the Safe Vecht project.
Join us online!
We invite you to take an online look at the dike at the test site. We will tell you more about the background to the study, the initial findings at the test sites and switch live to the dike for a look behind the scenes.
Date: Monday 8 March 2021
Time: 15.30 - 16.30 hours
You can register via wdodelta.nl/grasopzand. Around 4 March, you will receive an e-mail with the link to the online meeting.
