About KIVI Department of Mechanics

KIVI Department of Mechanics is active in applied mechanics in both industry and research institutions. In doing so, it includes both fluid and solid mechanics. Our members consist of engineers of all ages and positions. From students to retirees and from researchers to directors.

Technical Network

Having a technical network is very important for engineers. It ensures that engineers maintain their 'know-how', improve expertise and keep their contacts 'up to date'. The Royal Institute of Engineers (KIVI) is a professional association with more than 13,000 members, each with different specialities. KIVI stands for supporting engineers in their professional practice, propagating the importance of engineers and technology to society and promoting interaction between engineers and civil society. Through networking, one can come into contact with different scientific fields and positions within companies. Not only in the Netherlands, but also abroad!

Objective

The activities organised by the Mechanics Department are aimed at providing a broad view of topics related to applied mechanics. Besides the informative aspect, these activities also create ideal conditions for engineers to meet colleagues from other directions within the field of mechanics.

Finally, members have access to organisations related to scientific research through the Netherlands Mechanics Committee (NMC). An additional goal is to promote cooperation between companies and universities where mechanics engineers are trained. Study associations play an important role here in recruiting students.

Activities

These goals are achieved by giving the annual Mechanics Symposium, organising company visits/lectures and giving the biennial mechanics awards. Activities can be about both research and application. Reports of past activities can be found under the 'Reports' page.
