Presentation of Colonel Drake Award
Description
On 27 August 2009, exactly 150 years after 'Colonel' Edward Drake drilled the first oil well in Titusville, Pennsylvania, KIVI NIRIA Section for Mining, has already extensively commemorated the birthday of modern oil and gas extraction with a ''Colonel' Drake Honorary Tribute'.
Following this, the board decided to select a worthy successor to this founding father of the global E&P industry, for which an appeal was made to all members in late 2009.
The ''Colonel' Drake Award' is intended for that person or persons who has/have made a meaningful contribution to the development of the (broad) Mining Science and Industry, through vision, perseverance and inventiveness.
A number of candidates have been proposed to the Board for this award, and have already been presented in more detail to the members at the Annual Meeting on 9 April last. At a special meeting on 3 September next, the ''Colonel' Drake Award' will be officially presented from among the nominated candidates.
This activity will be held in conjunction with the monthly 'Barbaraborrel' of the Mining Association
