
Dr Meike Nauta wins the Prins Friso Ingenieursprijs 2025!
The award was presented on 12 March at The Hague University of Applied Sciences presented by Princess Mabel and KIVI president Jacolien Eijer- de Jong, in the presence of Princess Beatrix.
The Royal Institute of Engineers (KIVI) has named Dr Meike Nauta, pioneer in explainable and responsible AI, as the winner of the Prins Friso Ingenieursprijs 2025. The professional jury praised her not only for her scientific expertise, but especially for her empathy and social commitment.
This audience award was also won by Meike. As Senior Data Scientist at Datacation meike develops transparent AI solutions for various applications, including:
🔹 Medical AI - Detecting bone fractures on X-rays.
🔹 Infrastructure inspections - AI models that map damage to roads via drone imagery.
She also makes her code open-source available and runs workshops, for example, to make AI more accessible to a wide audience.
The Prince Friso Engineer Prize is awarded annually to an engineer who excels in expertise, innovation, entrepreneurship, ambassadorship and social impact. Meike's mission to deploy AI comprehensibly and responsibly makes her a worthy winner of the title Engineer of the Year 2025.
