New Year Meeting and Member Meeting KIVI Nuclear Engineering
The KIVI Nuclear Technology Board is pleased to invite you to the annual New Year Meeting of KIVI Nuclear Technology and the Netherlands Nuclear Society on Friday 31 January next at 14:30. Prior to this, the KIVI-NT Members' Meeting will take place.
The programme of the afternoon is as follows:
12:30 hrs - Walk-in
13:15 - KIVI-NT General Assembly of Members
14:30 - Presentation Jeroen Plomp: New research possibilities with the Delft reactor
15:15 h - Coffee break
15:45 - Presentation Antonia Denkova: Nanoparticles in radionuclide therapy
16:30 - Drinks
The KIVI-NT Members' Meeting is open to members of KIVI Nuclear Engineering, patrons of NNS and patrons of Kernvisie. Only KIVI-NT members have voting rights during the meeting.
Regarding Jeroen Plomp's presentation:
For six decades, the research reactor in Delft has been an important centre for radiation research, education and expertise. Historically, much of the scientific research took place within the institute's walls. To break down these boundaries, the OYSTER programme was launched in 2012. This programme focused on upgrading the reactor and associated instruments. Thanks to this modernisation and a new organisational structure, we have been able to facilitate significantly more national and international external research since a few months. In this presentation, we offer an overview of the new possibilities and the future role of our research reactor.
Regarding the presentation by Antonia Denkova:
Nanoparticles find applications in cancer diagnosis and treatment but there are rarely associated with radionuclide therapy. However, ultra-small nanoparticles can be very promising delivery vehicles for radionuclides, especially in certain cases such as when using Auger electrons emitters. In this talk, the development of gold and silver nanoparticles for radionuclide therapy will be presented, including synthesis, characterisation, radiolabelling and in vitro evaluation using 2D and 3D cancer cell models.
Participation is free for members of KIVI, NNS, Kernvisie and students and costs € 25.00 for others.
