Health and Communication
The theme evening "Health and Communication" was attended by 45 interested people from KIVI and TSOC, where attendees were shown and heard the latest state of trends and developments in applying smart sensors in healthcare.
This will enable quicker diagnoses, improve the quality of care and could reduce healthcare costs. The ability to remotely track, monitor vulnerable people will become more effcient for informal carers and staff in community and home care.
In the first presentation, Pim Ketelaar of Vital Innovators gave an overview of eHealth trends and developments. This covered the current state of affairs and future vision of the industry. In doing so, Pim shared results of current applications, such as the various digital platforms that already exist and the benefits of the use of teledermatology by GPs.
It also addressed the challenges with current developments and the need for standardisation in the industry to ensure compatibility of applications and solutions in the future.
Next, Jan Willem Wolters of Sensara addressed in his presentation the ever-rising costs of medical care due to an ageing population and how smart sensors can help reduce this. In the demonstration via the a mobile app, Jan Willem showed how the smart sensors work. Here, it primarily gives children/carers the opportunity to monitor the elderly remotely, but there is also the option of early detection of problems and preventive help via the data analysis of daily patterns.
The subsequent discussion then addressed the issue of privacy when monitoring the elderly through smart sensors.
The successful evening ended with the usual networking over drinks.
N.B. The presentation of KPN SmartLife, by Peter Paul Vos will be given at a subsequent activity.
Description
KIVI Telecommunications Department invites you to the lecture evening with the theme: Health and Communication.
The subject of ageing is high on the social agenda. In terms of housing, people can and want, with the help of their loved ones, to continue living at home for longer and longer. ICT and eHealth play an increasingly important role in making this possible.
Pim Ketelaar shows that ICT offers more and more possibilities when looking at health and care; eHealth and telemedicine are on the rise. But there are still many promises to be fulfilled. What are the trends and developments, opportunities and challenges? Pim will give more insight into this, based on his experiences as innovation manager in healthcare.
Next, Peter Paul Vos of KPN will tell more about KPN SmartLife.
People also want and are able to live at home for longer and longer in old age or illness. More and more care will take place at home, partly thanks to technological developments. This can be made possible thanks to making our homes smarter.
Finally, Jan Willem Wolters of Sensara gives an overview of smart sensors that enable the elderly to live safely at home for longer. These sensors monitor living patterns, recognise abnormalities and can alarm accordingly. Using examples, Jan Willem will show how this technology is currently applied, and give insight into the state-of-the-art and future developments.
