Description

In 2013, KIVINIRIA Platform Railsystemen is organising two workshops on Infra-Architecture and Technology Policy for the (ProRail) rail network of the Netherlands.

This first Infra-Architecture workshop will focus on general design and system frameworks in the form of Infraconcepts, and will specifically pay attention to the Infraconcept Heavy Rail Premium 2020 for heavily travelled routes in the 'broad Randstad'.

The second workshop (in October 2013) will deal with Technology Policy, with a focus on the interaction between Equipment and Infrastructure and on the policy for Traction Energy Supply (1500 V or 3000 V in the Netherlands?).

You are now invited to participate in the Infra Architecture workshop, on Wednesday 22 May 2013.

ProRail is currently giving extra attention to the architecture of the rail infrastructure, focusing on the development of so-called Infra Concepts. Within infra architecture, a number of different infra designs are distinguished. Each design belongs to a cluster of railway lines within which the same services are provided to carriers and passengers, with corresponding technical performance requirements. Each design also defines which functions the infrastructure provides to the carrier and standardises the technical systems used as much as possible. Such a design per cluster of railway lines is called an infrastructure concept. Smart clustering leads to seven infraconcepts for the Netherlands.

To make the translation to infrastructure and rail technologies, a reference architecture is being drawn up for each infraconcept. This will have to become the guiding principle for all parties in the rail sector involved in developing, designing, building and maintaining systems and infrastructure. The reference architecture describes within which frameworks systems and designs should comply. Technical systems from a particular engineering field will be applied in as many infrastructure concepts as possible. By pursuing this, the diversity of systems is reduced and standardisation is achieved.

The infra concept Heavy Rail Premium 2020 provides the railway infrastructure for the busiest part of the core network of the Netherlands (with more than 50,000 train kilometres per km of track per year), for which the highest possible capacity and operational reliability must be offered. It accounts for about 25% of the rail kilometres in the Netherlands.

Note: There is a maximum of 30 participants. Participation in order of registration; members of the KIVINIRIA section Railsystems have priority, followed by other KIVINIRIA members
