Description

That tracks and points need a lot of maintenance and renewal and are regularly disturbed is no news. That this requires a lot of money, a lot of (night-time) work and is not sustainable does not need to be said at length either. Much improvement has been initiated in the last two decades in the form of strengthening track and switch structures, redesigning them (e.g. elasticity) and optimally maintaining and conditioning the rails. Another improvement route is via steering towards a reduction of static and especially dynamic loads on the structure (the track's "stress state"). Some studies have been carried out here over the last year that are interesting to share and provide fodder for discussion. What else is possible in the future in this area?

A number of speakers will share with you the current state of technology and maintenance, research and projects around the vehicle/infra interface and challenges for the future.
Speakers for the introductions:

- Michael Steenbergen, TU Delft, and Edward de Jong, Lloyd's Register Rail, on study of effects of freight transport on the infra

- Martin Hiensch, Plurel, Study of VIRM swivel arm bearings, on a study of swivel arm bearings according to hydraulic principle for the VIRM
After the presentations, you will be divided into two workshops, to be chosen at your convenience. This presentation is not tightly linked to the evening's theme, but gives participants an insight into the project

16.30 hrs: Walk-in and welcome to TU Delft, Rolf Dollevoet, professor of rail engineering and rail systems expert ProRail

17.00 hrs: Introduction evening by Arjen Zoeteman, KIVI Rail Systems board member, policy advisor on technology policy ProRail and researcher rail engineering

17.10 hrs: Introductions by speakers on mentioned topics

18.00: Sandwich meal

18.30: 2 parallel workshops (rotating after half an hour)

Workshop 1: Edward de Jong, Michael Steenbergen: Continuation of the presentations, future of vehicle/infra design

Workshop 2: Joris Rouppe van der Voort, Nedtrain, Special: the VIRM overhaul

19.30: Closing and drinks

20.30: End
