Project visit Driebergen-Zeist station
Project visit Stationsgebied Driebergen-Zeist
The project visit took place on 3 October. All available places were fully booked.

Project manager Pim van de Kragt (Arcadis) began with an explanation of the project.
Traffic jams at the railway crossing, overcrowded bicycle parking facilities and a shortage of parking spaces. Important reasons for tackling the Driebergen-Zeist station area. Hoofdstraat will soon run under the railway via a subway for traffic. The station area of Driebergen-Zeist will become a compact public transport hub, where all traffic flows smoothly.
Hoofdstraat will be widened and will soon go under the tracks. This will make traffic jams a thing of the past. The level crossing in Odijkerweg will be removed.
A new station will be built, with a new bus station and a new car park with around 600 parking spaces. Below the station there will be a bicycle shed with 3,000 spaces where cyclists can park their bikes safely and dry. In addition, cyclists will have their own cycle route, allowing them to cross the station area safely.
In the new situation, the station square runs under the tracks. This means: no more unsafe situations with pedestrians running across the tracks to catch their trains.
The number of tracks will be increased from three to four. Moreover, passing intercity trains will soon use the outer tracks as much as possible. So they no longer rush past waiting passengers. In the middle there will be one wide platform where only the sprinters stop. And intercity trains simply overtake local trains here. There will also be a new turning track.
After this presentation and many questions, an extensive tour of the project area followed. It all ended with a convivial drink in the project's construction café.

Description
Driebergen-Zeist station area
Traffic jams at the railway crossing, overcrowded bicycle parking and a shortage of parking spaces. Important reasons for tackling the Driebergen-Zeist station area. Hoofdstraat will soon run under the railway via a subway for traffic. The station area of Driebergen-Zeist will become a compact public transport hub, where all traffic flows smoothly.
Traffic jam problem solved
The Hoofdstraat will be widened and will soon pass under the railway tracks. This will make traffic jams a thing of the past. The level crossing in Odijkerweg will be removed.
New station
A new station will be built, with a new bus station and a new car park with some 600 parking spaces. Cyclists are also being considered. Underneath the station there will be a bike shed with 3,000 spaces where cyclists can park their bikes dry and safe. Cyclists will also be given their own cycle route, enabling them to cross the station area safely.
Station square under the tracks
In the new situation, the station square will run under the tracks. This means no more unsafe situations where pedestrians run across the tracks to catch their trains.
Extra tracks
The number of tracks will be increased from three to four. Moreover, passing intercity trains will soon use the outer tracks as much as possible. So they no longer rush past waiting passengers. In the middle there will be one wide platform where only the sprinters stop. And intercity trains simply overtake local trains here. There will also be a new reversing track.
