RET Tram depot Beverwaard
Description
The Beverwaard tram depot, a modern and sustainable building for Rotterdam's public transport company RET, is located at the southern city limits of Rotterdam, in the 'zuidpunt Beverwaard' triangle and can accommodate approximately 100 trams. The building fits in with the ambitions of both RET and the City of Rotterdam to become one of the most sustainable cities in the world.
The construction of this tram depot, including the workshop and the P+R site, therefore fits in with the policy of both organisations to reduce the
CO2 emissions in Rotterdam and to operate as sustainably as possible. The new tram depot is equipped with various
sustainable facilities, such as heat/cold storage, a grey water system, a solar boiler and a highly advanced workshop in which the user's wishes are paramount. RET collaborated with transport companies from Blackpool, Brussels and Dijon in the realisation as part of Tramstore21.
The total complex covers about 20,000 square metres, of which the workshop with offices is about 5,800 square metres.
A large proportion of the foundation piles (a total of 2,700) are designed as 'energy piles' that act as heat exchangers
and are connected to floors with hot and cold water circulation. The workshop meets all the requirements of a
modern workplace: diagnosis of the condition of trams, digital management and intelligent storage of spare parts, easy access to all parts of the tram and to tools and equipment. In addition, the most optimal forms of lighting,
safety, noise, temperature are necessary, as well as a circuit for processing waste, et cetera,
The depot is equipped with a fully automatic switch comb, such that vehicles coming in are recognisable, and then guided to the right tracks or possibly workshop through an automated process. This is all to achieve the highest possible operational efficiency with regard to the out and in process.
The depot has its own Rectifier Station and tram tracks are isolated. This means that a special construction has been developed for the traction and return supply . All this to catch any stray currents and transport them back to the rectifier station.
During the visit to the depot, the background of the sustainable building, maintenance and operational aspects will be explained in a lecture and guided tour. There will also be ample opportunity for networking over coffee and sandwiches
