Lake IJ connection
Description
In November 2009, the cabinet opted for a western development of Almere, in combination with an IJmeer connection. The condition set by the cabinet in this regard was that the social cost-benefit analysis (SCBA) of this development variant should substantially improve and the budgetary consequences be significantly reduced. To achieve this, the Werkmaatschappij Amsterdam Almere (WAA) was set up and challenged market players to come up with an optimised design.
Three (inter)national consortia developed their vision for the IJmeer connection. The originally estimated amount (€4.5 billion for a bridge and €5.6 billion for a tunnel) is reduced by around €2 billion in the proposals. All three consortia - Jacobs/APPM/Posad, Movares and Mott MacDonald/MNO Vervat BV - indicate that a metro is a better solution than a train, which was included in the original plans.
On 30 November, KIVI NIRIA is organising a lecture on this largest project. During this lecture, Ben Viveen, director WAA, will explain the experiences of this way of involving market parties in the design process and the three market parties will give a presentation of their design
