Spyker Prize 2011 / visit to Automotive Lab
Spyker Prize 2011 awarded to the best automotive engineering graduation theses of HBO and WO
The annual 'Spyker Prize' is awarded by the Vehicle Technology Department of KIVI NIRIA to the best graduation theses in the field of vehicle technology in the broad sense. The prize is named after the illustrious Dutch car brand from the first quarter of the last century. There is a separate prize for HBO and WO theses.
The prize amounts to 2 x €500 and is sponsored by HTAS and High Tech Automotive Campus.
The annual presentation of the Spyker Prize took place on Wednesday evening 14 December in TU Eindhoven's Automotive Engineering Science (AES) Lab.
Host Dr Igo Besselink, associate professor at the TU, gave an extremely interesting talk on future developments in road transport and of ongoing research at the TU/e in particular.
Spyker Award 2011
As in previous years, after the lecture the Spyker Prize was awarded for the best graduation reports in HBO and WO education. The graduation supervisors had submitted a total of 4 HBO and 7 WO theses to the jury chaired by Peter van der Koogh. The jury nominated three theses for HBO; 2 from HAN and 1 from The Hague University of Applied Sciences, and three for WO, two from TU Eindhoven and 1 from TU Delft.
All the nominees gave a 10-minute presentation after which there was 5 minutes for questions.
It was very interesting to see 6 presentations on a variety of topics in a relatively short time. Pim Spiekermann's presentation offered a surprising insight into the future of Augmented Reality in the car.
The following were nominated:
| 1st HBO | HAN Automotive | |
| 2nd / 3rd HBO | HAN Automotive | Tom Tsadok Hai |
| 2nd / 3rd HBO | The Hague University of Applied Sciences | Niels van Dril & Frank van Eeden |
| 1st WO | TU Eindhoven | |
| 2nd / 3rd WO | TU Delft/Industrial Design | Pim Spiekerman |
| 2nd / 3rd WO | TU Eindhoven | Bas van den Berge |
HBO Spyker Prize
Among the HBO nominees, ing. Sander de Goede with an in-depth research into the driving characteristics of a motorbike using simulation and driving tests. The research was carried out on behalf of HAN Automotive's Mobility Technology lectorate. The driving tests were conducted in collaboration with HAN Auotmotive's Applied Research Lab. The first prize at HBO, Euro 500,- was sponsored by High Tech Automotive Campus.

First prize at HBO: ing. Sander de Goede (HAN Automotive) receives the Spyker prize from Han van den Bremer of High Tech Automotive Campus.
WO Spyker Award
At WO, first prize went to ir Tom van de Sande with a very strong story about a well-known problem; the struggle between comfort and roadholding. Tom van der Sande delivered an excellent piece of work by using an electro magnetic actuator in the wheel suspension, to achieve an optimal compromise. The research included both a well-founded model and well-performed tests. This achieved a very promising result. The first prize at WO, Euro 500,- was sponsored by High Tech Automotive Systems (HTAS).

First prize at WO: ir. Tom van der Sande receives the Spyker prize from the hands of Han van den Bremer of HTAS Automotive Innovation.
The prize winners and all other nominees went home with a free membership of KIVI NIRIA.
