The board of KIVI Region Gelderland invites you to the network café with Climate Adaptation theme on Monday 7 October.

The speaker will be Maarten Wansink, spatial planning specialist RHDHV.

The Netherlands not only needs to address the causes of climate change. The Netherlands must also prepare for the consequences of climate change. And adapt to these consequences. This adaptation to climate change is called climate adaptation.

Key problems are:

  • More heat stress to people due to extreme weather: more sickness, hospital admissions and deaths, and less productivity and more sickness at work
  • more frequent failure of parts of vital and vulnerable functions due to extreme weather: risks to energy, telecoms and IT facilities and to main infrastructure
  • more frequent crop damage and other damages in agriculture and horticulture due to extreme weather: reduced crop yields, increased damage to inputs
  • shifting climate zones combined with a lack of international spatial cohesion in nature: some plants and animals cannot move sufficiently with the shifting climate
  • possibly more infections and allergies, such as hay fever or other respiratory complaints: loss of health, loss of work and costs

The lecture starts at 20:00, the hall is open from 19:30.
