NETWORKCAFÉ: Nobian presents its sustainability ambitions

In 2018, AkzoNobel was split into AkzoNobel (paint and coatings) and Nouryon (chemicals), with Nouryon also recently being split. In the process, base chemicals were transferred to the new company Nobian.

Nobian is a European leader in the production of salt, essential chemicals and energy for industries ranging from construction and cleaning to pharmaceuticals and water treatment.

As an energy-intensive company, Nobian prides itself on its sustainability ambitions and aims to be climate neutral by 2040. Since 1990, they have reduced thecarbon footprint by 55% and grown the share of renewable energy to 35%. But the ambition goes further. They aim to become one of the most sustainable chemical companies in Europe and this is something they cannot do alone. Therefore, they want to grow greener together (Grow Greener Together) with customers, environment and partners. Nobian aims to use its competences in salt and electrochemistry to drive green growth in impactful markets, such as energy storage and hydrogen, to turn sustainability challenges into business success.
