Description

Between Leidsche Rijn and Utrecht Central stations, ProRail and contractor BAM Infra are expanding the number of tracks over a length of almost 2 km. One of the daring projects is the construction of a new railway bridge over the Amsterdam Rhine Canal. This bridge will be located between the current railway bridge and the Hogeweide bridge. In April 2017, six sections of the new bridge were ferried by boats to a construction site on the west side of the Amsterdam Rhine Canal. At this construction site, the six parts are welded together. The result: a three-thousand-tonne colossus that will be pushed by pontoons between the two existing bridges in November 2017.

On Thursday 26 October, the contractor BAM Infra and ProRail invite us to take a closer look at the work.

The programme
After receiving coffee and tea, BAM and ProRail will give a presentation on the entire project. After the presentation, we will visit the construction site of the new railway bridge. In the process, we will be able to take a closer look at the three-thousand-tonne colossus. The interesting afternoon will end with drinks in the project office.

Additional info
During this visit we will visit a construction site, therefore this excursion is less suitable for people with walking difficulties. Please make sure to bring a good jacket and/or rainwear. Request is not to wear loose-fitting clothing such as a skirt or dress. ProRail/BAM Infra will provide safety shoes, signal vest and helmet.
