Description

As a change from the traditional family walk in June, we have organised a mushroom walk for you this year. This year, we will visit the Munningsbosch, located in central Limburg in the triangle between Sint Odiliënberg, Montfort and Posterholt.

The Munningsbosch is an old estate forest that offers an alternation between high and low terrain parts. The forest itself is quite high. From here, water flows towards the Vlootbeek and the Roer. The Vlootbeek, which formerly had its course in an old Roer meander, was diverted as early as 1800. In the late 1950s, the Vlootbeek was canalised, making the adjacent land much drier. The entire area at the foot of the Meuse's high terrace originally consisted of peat, which has since been reclaimed. At the edge of the forest is the stately farmstead Munningsboschhof.

The area is best known for the many birds that occur here. There are even five species of woodpeckers. Several owls such as the Tawny Owl can also be observed. The area is further home to wild boar and roe deer. There are also traces of the pine marten and the large beetle species the Flying Deer can be observed here.

Led by an expert guide, we will take a walk through the forest and along the way pay specific attention to the various species of mushrooms that are abundant at this time of year. Traditionally, we will conclude this activity with a communal lunch.
