Solar power plants
Description
For some years now, Concentrating Solar Power has been on an almost unstoppable rise. Although the Netherlands is not in the region where this form of renewable energy can be applied on a large scale, the undersigned thinks it is essential for future energy scenarios.
In the past year, many scenarios have appeared that indicate how to make the transition to 100% renewable in Europe or in the world.
In the Netherlands, there are quite a few sceptics and, for the time being, politicians have opted for nuclear and coal with or without CO2 storage. Some are even so adamant that they think we cannot make the transition fast enough without nuclear power
The presentation will focus on the technology of CSP and how it can be used in a European grid to get 100% renewable energy. The so-called Desertec concept will be described and laid alongside existing transition schemes and alongside TU-Delft calculations. In addition, the various projects currently underway in Europe and beyond and their state of progress will be discussed. Are we not making ourselves dependent on the Sahara countries? Is such a network affordable? What should such a network look like?
