Sounding board group Engineers & Energy Transition
Because there is much uncertainty about what can and cannot be done in the field of energy transition, KIVI has set up a sounding board group Engineers & Energy Transition. This group will answer questions from politics and society. Some ten KIVI members have now signed up to actively participate in this group. We still have thirty years to go but actually it is short notice. That is why it is of the utmost importance to take the right steps. The group will use the Netherlands Energy Balance 2019 from Energiebeheer Nederland(www.ebn.nl) as a starting point for the research needed to answer questions.
Among other things, we will pay attention to:
- Energy - consumption and generation. More and more consumers are supplying/generating their own energy. Obviously, it is of paramount importance that consumption and generation are balanced.
- Distribution across the various "fuels" namely oil, natural gas, coal, biomass, nuclear, wind, solar, geothermal.
- With further sustainability, the imbalance between supply and demand will increase. Solutions to this are conventional power plants that can regulate and/or start/stop operation (are not sustainable), heat storage, electricity storage, renewable hydrogen, flexible user demand, biomass.
To make it even more complicated, we have to deal with a large number of preconditions: consumption patterns, international competitiveness, support and affordability, sustainable heat sources now and in the future, new developments and so on.
The start will be a bit slower due to the corona measures, but we think we will be active from August onwards.
