A general member of the main board is part of the main board of the Royal Institute of Engineers (KIVI). the main board is responsible for leading the association, setting its strategic direction and defining its medium- and long-term position. It also has the responsibility to stimulate and organise the vitality and dynamism of the association.

The main board functions as a collegial board. On weighty issues, proposals are submitted to the members' council. This active member council appoints and monitors the main board.

A general board member is broadly employable in various fields and knows how to inspire and enjoys interactions with engineers inside and outside the association. He or she is socially engaged and appreciates the qualities of KIVI and the significance KIVI has had for its members and society since 1847.

For this specific appointment, we are looking for someone with direct relationships at technical universities or colleges, preferably as a member of the Executive Board of one of these universities/colleges. He/she is also chairman of the KIVI Council for Training, Profession and Career (ROBL).

The time commitment involved in the unpaid position of General Board member varies, but is approximately 8 hours per week.

Context

Technology and the work of engineers are crucial to addressing and solving today's major societal issues. KIVI makes a strong case for this by supporting engineers, promoting engineering education and continuing to emphasise in society the importance of technological solutions. KIVI wants to grow and rejuvenate in the coming years. From within the association, we will support engineers even better in their professional practice and recognition of the value of their work.

The (unpaid) positions are challenging because of their versatility. Traditionally, KIVI operates mainly within the Dutch context. However, against the backdrop of a globalisation of technology and society, KIVI is increasingly focusing on activities with an international character.

The executive board is supported by the bureau (22 FTE) which, among other things, performs support and promotional tasks for the association. The board currently has eight members: president, vice president, secretary, treasurer and 4 general board members.
