A general member of the Main Board is part of the Main Board of the Royal Institute of Engineers, KIVI. Collectively, the Main Board is responsible for the affairs of the association and the policies of KIVI. The General Board ensures that the course set in the Members' Council meeting is implemented.

A general board member is broadly deployable in various fields. The four general head board members divide the various tasks. Tasks such as marketing, international relations (e.g. ENGINEERS EUROPE), the awards committee and digitalisation can be invested in a general member - as long as they are not linked to other portfolios.

One of the general board members is in charge of Chartered Engineering and related international relations and is himself a Chartered or Incorporated Engineer at KIVI.

A general board member also chairs the Council for Science, Technology and Society (RWTM). The time commitment involved in the unpaid position of General Board member varies, but is around 8-10 hours per week.

Context

KIVI is the knowledge network dedicated to support, visibility and quality of engineers. As an association, we seek connections with research, education, society and, of course, with each other. KIVI helps to safeguard and improve the quality of education and research. Technology and the work of engineers are crucial for addressing and solving the major social issues of our time. KIVI makes a strong case for this by supporting engineers, promoting engineering education and continuing to represent the voice of technological solutions in society. KIVI wants to grow and rejuvenate in the coming years. From the association, we will support engineers even better in their professional practice and recognition of the value of their work.

Traditionally, KIVI operates mainly within the Dutch context. However, against the background of a globalisation of engineering and society, KIVI is increasingly focusing on activities with an international character.

The Executive Board, which currently has eight members including this vacancy, functions as a collegial board. The positions are challenging because of the many facets they have to offer. On weighty issues, proposals are submitted to the membership council. The main board is supported by the office (22 FTE) which, among other things, performs support and promotional tasks for the association.
