Criteria: Engineer of the Year
Engineers (ir. and ing.) who distinguish themselves in their work through the following five competencies are eligible for the title of Engineer of the Year:
1. Craftsmanship
You are an outstanding engineer. You have a thorough grasp of your field, understand complex technical issues and translate knowledge into smart, practical solutions. You bridge disciplines and contribute to the development of the engineering profession.
2. Innovative strength
You dare to think differently and are creative. You develop new technologies, products or processes, or apply existing solutions in unexpected ways. In doing so, you create demonstrable added value.
3. Entrepreneurial spirit
You take the initiative and put ideas into practice. You spot opportunities, get people on board and turn plans into results. You demonstrate courage, perseverance and a sense of ownership, whether within a company, a research institution, a government body or your own business.
4. Social impact
Your work makes a tangible contribution to finding solutions to societal challenges. Your work makes a tangible contribution to finding solutions to societal challenges, such as sustainability, health, safety, energy, mobility and digitalisation. Your contribution makes a difference.
5. Ambassadorship
You are a compelling advocate for the engineering profession. You communicate clearly and enthusiastically about technology, inspire the next generation and demonstrate how engineers help drive our society forward.

The Prince Friso Engineering Award is more than just a personal honour. For a year, the winner becomes the face of the Dutch engineering world. As Engineer of the Year, the winner demonstrates how engineering provides solutions to the major challenges of our time and inspires young people, professionals, decision-makers and the general public.
In this way, the prize contributes to greater visibility and appreciation for the engineering profession and for the people who are driving the Netherlands forward.
