Description

Within the petrochemical industry, the prevention of pipeline leaks is high on the agenda. In the field of piping systems, the petrochemical industry pays a lot of attention to welded joints. Unfortunately, many are unaware that a flange connection is often the weakest link and therefore critical to prevent leaks. Not complying with government requirements can even jeopardise a company's 'licence to operate'.

The increasing environmental and emission requirements, combined with the shortage of skilled personnel, necessitate additional focus and training. This is why all countries have recently been working in a European context to get agreement on the new CEN standard EN 1591-4, published in August 2013.

Even if you don't see it, every flange connection leaks. Diffuse emissions release in the order of 110,000 tonnes of volatile substances into the environment every year in the Netherlands; that's a loss of around 75 million euros. Not to mention safety risks, soil pollution or a major fire. We lack the awareness that a flange connection is often the weakest link.

Peter Dijkgraaf shares his vision and experience on flange connections. Javier Alvarez also has a lot of knowledge and experience on flanges, both in setting up a system and in implementation. This combination guarantees an interesting meeting in which the important points of interest about flange connections are pointed out
