Always wanted to become an author?
Description
Every engineer sometimes dreams of it: writing a book, or an article in a professional journal. The urge to tell about our beautiful field and transfer knowledge is recognisable. But now 'the real world'. Will it remain a dream or is it realistic? What is involved in writing a book? Can we play well enough with language? And what is the role of a publisher?
PURPOSE
To inform engineers about authorship.
FORM
Lectures / workshop. Maximum 20 people per session.
OPPOSITION INFORMATION SECTION

- Speaker author (Richard Groenewegen). Reader and author side. What does a reader want to read? What is the reader 'looking for'? Why does an engineer want to write about his profession? How do you approach writing an article or book?
- Speaker of trade journal (Janine Booij, InstallatieJournaal). What is a trade magazine's target audience? Organisation of a trade magazine publisher: sales and editorial independence? What kind of articles does an editor expect? What criteria must an article meet? What does an editor pay attention to? Typical writing tips. Topicality. Visual material.
- Speaker from book publisher (Deltapress Publishing House - A.C. van de Vendel - publisher). What does a publisher expect from authors? What is the interplay between authors and publishing? From idea to the 'construction' of a book. What does the internet add to books?
WORKSHOP PARTICIPATION
The workshop will involve practical exercises with participants on how to assess texts, storylines and target audiences of texts. The workshop guidance will be provided by the speakers.

Members Departments of Electrical Engineering, Vehicle Engineering and Teachers.
