The Thales Group is a global electronics company operating in the fields of aviation, defence and information technology.Thales Netherlands is the largest defence company in the Netherlands and manufactures radar, communication and command & control systems for naval vessels, as well as communication, security and payment systems for industry. The Dutch branch in Hengelo (O) was formerly known as Hollandse Signaalapparaten BV. Hollandse Signaal Apparaten (HSA) was founded in 1922 as NV Hazemeyers factory of signal devices. In 1956, Philips bought most of the shares from the Dutch government. In 1990, HSA was acquired from Philips by France's Thomson-CSF. In December 2000, the name was changed to Thales to make it clear that Thales is not a French but an international company.
