Dear members of the KIVI History of Engineering Section

In these difficult times, we have unfortunately had to suspend our activities. We hope that you and your loved ones are doing well and continue to do well!

The KIVI-GdT Board would like to give you a heartfelt word of encouragement and let you know that we are looking forward again to give hands and feet to our future. In doing so, we are again working closely with our sister association Histechnica.

The lectures planned in recent months, on the Entrepreneur Ir Jacques van Marken (Gist Brocades) and Disappearing Railways, have unfortunately fallen through. But we hope these can now take place in 2021. We had planned a General Assembly for 14 March. We should probably replace that with a "digital" meeting, by e-mail, to which you can respond. We will notify you about this soon.

We expect to continue with the lectures in a modified form again in the autumn. Starting -with reservations- with the 5 September lecture on One Hundred Years of Currents in the Netherlands. Here, of course, we will have to observe the Corona protocol.

The Italy study tour will probably be able to take place in spring 2021. We cannot hold the "inland" study tour to Ghent this year, but we hope to replace it with an alternative next autumn.

Please follow our further messages via KIVI's e-mail. We are in discussions with the Science Centre on how to responsibly shape the proposed 5 September meeting. We do now offer you two alternative "virtual" lectures (articles) as compensation: Article by Prof Dr Ir Jan W. H. Uytenbogaart and Article The mining railways in the Dutch East Indies

All the best, stay healthy!

Kind regards,

On behalf of the board of KIVI-GdT:

Frank van den Berg, chairman

Ton de Liefde, secretary
