Kick-off meeting Risk Management & Engineering
Description
Many engineers are dissatisfied with how risk is handled and managed in the current context. Due to increasing complexity and interconnectedness, risks are increasing, both within companies and organisations and socially. The current, mainly procedural, approach through rules, prohibitions, fines and liability has insufficient answer to this. Such a mechanical incident approach not only gives many blind spots, but also leads to rigidity, new risks and pass-on behaviour. How to turn this tide is not an easy task, but it affects almost everyone.
Cooperation within KIVI NIRIA
The RBT department is a cross-section and has many interfaces with other departments within the KIVI NIRIA network. Naturally, there is intensive cooperation in relevant areas, whereby it is determined in consultation how cooperation can best be realised.
External cooperation
Given its multidisciplinary character, the department's field of activity has important interfaces with sectors outside the engineering discipline, such as management and organisation, behavioural and communication sciences, finance and governance, with which contact and/or cooperation will be sought for specific subjects.
Organisation of the department
The activities of the RBT department are organised in three working groups:
- Development & analysis, with the core task of stimulating the (further) development of application-oriented, effective risk analysis and risk management systems. Specific attention is paid to still underexposed aspects such as the 'human factor', integrated risk management and (social) communication and accountability.
- Practice & Implementation, which, among other things, inventories and evaluates the various implementations of Risk Management Systems within the various disciplines.
- Communication & Information, which deals with the communication and image-forming aspects of the subject, as well as taking care of publicising the department's field of work and activities by organising internal and external meetings, seminars and symposiums.
The departmental executive committee coordinates the activities and acts as spokesperson to the outside world, such as politicians and the press. The board consists of a chairman, secretary/treasurer, the three leaders of the working groups mentioned above and one or two independent board members to strengthen the external network
