After the success of the Meet & Greet Sustainable Technology (DT)of the past years, we would like to invite you again for the Meet & Greet in 2020. Many ideas for activities were put forward during our department's Meet & Greet 2017, 2018 and 2019, which again led to activities in the past year. This too led to activities. We would like to show you the results of this and the activities we are currently working on. Moreover, our department has welcomed new members in the past year. We would like to give everyone the opportunity to get to know each other and the board.

This year, the DT board has chosen "The energy transition: from policy to practice" as its theme . The energy transition has a huge diversity of aspects and techniques. We will highlight some of them this day: from a capital city approach to hydrogen in the neighbourhood and heat generation and heat networks in some major cities in the Netherlands.

There will be plenty of time to exchange views together interactively on how we as engineers can get a picture of the state of energy transition and contribute to making society more sustainable. The presentations will help you on your way.

The Meet & Greet (including dinner) will take place at Antropia, conference centre in Driebergen, easily accessible by both car and public transport.

The programme is as follows:

15:00 Reception with coffee & tea
15:30 Opening and presentation on DT by Andre Dijkmans chairman DT

16.00 h "In what way does a modern waste-to-energy plant substantially contribute to energy transition" by Michiel Timmerije ( director energy & residues) and Hans Wassenaar (Sr. project manager energy & residues) - AVR

The residual heat is supplied to heat networks in Rotterdam and Duiven/Arnhem. This avoids significant CO2 emissions. Moreover, AVR is innovatively deploying CO2 in greenhouse horticulture.

17.00 o'clock "Energy transition in Amsterdam: from fragmentation to acceleration" by Mimi Eelman, Director energy transition - Ingenieursbureau gemeente Amsterdam

What is involved in energy transition in Amsterdam: what do you run into politically, administratively, legally, technically-infrastructurally, cost and funding. In the presentation, Mimi takes us to a number of pilot areas in Amsterdam where energy transition is now being translated. What dilemmas do we encounter, what lessons are learned, what does it mean for the city and the required pace to realise the ambition, and how do we - as a municipality - deal with it?

18:00 Get acquainted, talk, drinks and bread buffet

18:30"Off Gas: How do we do it with already existing district heating systems?" by Maarten Koop, Project Engineer - Eneco Heat & Industry.

Electrification is one option, and also offers the possibility of stabilising the electricity grid through demand-side management. This is becoming increasingly important with increasingly flexible electricity production from solar and wind! Eneco has installed the first large electrodeboiler in the Netherlands, which converts 12 kV AC voltage directly into 12MW of heat. This presentation will explain the project development, realisation and deployment of this novelty. What do we want to learn from this pilot project?

19.30 o'clock "Monumental neighbourhood in Lochem on hydrogen" by Guus West

He presents us with a pilot in Lochem.

20.00 o'clock After-talk, exchange of ideas and evaluation

20:30 Closing
