The engineer back in the social debate!
The engineer seems to have disappeared from the social debate. It is mainly lawyers, economists, communication consultants and politicians who set the tone these days.
The question is how it has come to this. Do others not understand the engineer? Does he or she not sell himself or herself well? Does the engineer stay too much within his or her own speciality without looking at other fields?
Energy, mobility, environment, water management, ict: social topics aplenty where the engineer with professional knowledge plays a significant role.

Speaker(s)
Diederik Samsom (1971) studied nuclear physics at TU Delft. Until 2001, he worked at Greenpeace as project and campaign manager. He then became director of the green energy company "Echte Energie". Since 2003, Diederik has been a member of the PvdA parliamentary party, speaking on issues including the environment, sustainability, climate, energy and railways. Since 2007, he has been a member of the group executive committee as foreign affairs coordinator.
Gerlof Bosveld (1962) studied technical physics at TU Delft. He then joined KPN Research. For years he acted at the interface of technology and innovation in substantive, commercial and managerial positions. In 2003, KPN Research was transferred to TNO, where he became deputy director of TNO Telecom in 2004. He is currently general director of TNO Information and Communication Technology, where 400 knowledge professionals work.
Albert Smit (1968) studied technical business administration at TU Eindhoven. He started his career as a product manager at Unilever. After that, he was a marketing and strategy consultant at VODW and partner/manager at software company Tridion. In 2003, he started the company Milestone Marketing, which helps B2B companies win more
