Science Technology & Society Council (RWTM)

Connecting technical expertise with societal challenges

The RWTM fulfils the KIVI vision '28 to be more visible and involved in society.

To this end, the RWTM establishes links with politics and the media and advises the Executive Board on developments in society that are relevant to KIVI's strategy. In addition, the RWTM encourages departments to be externally active in their field or region. The Central Board's decisions on 'department spokespersons' and 'political advice' form the basis for this.

Tasks RWTM

Concrete tasks of the RWTM at present are:

  1. Giving opinions on technological developments to the House of Representatives.
  2. Organising an annual KIVI technology lecture.
  3. Regularly publishing a KIVIsie blog.
  4. Publishing substantive position papers from KIVI departments, councils or committees.
  5. Organising and awarding once every 5 years the Conrad's premium established in 1870.
  6. Advising the main board on the annual theme and on social developments with implications for KIVI.
