About the department

KIVI Construction and Hydraulic Engineering Division

With more than 1,150 members, the Construction and Hydraulic Engineering Section is one of the largest professional sections of KIVI. The Section's mission is to independently develop activities that make it possible to follow developments in the discipline through targeted knowledge transfer. The department considers it its task to improve the image of the discipline of civil engineering and its practitioners. In addition, the social element is obviously of great importance.

Networking and sharing experiences

There is active construction in the Netherlands. The department not only wants to keep you informed of key developments, but also to involve you in them. Excursions and informal meetings offer the opportunity to learn about new developments and to meet colleagues and benefit from their experiences. Where appropriate, these activities are also organised with other KIVI departments and circles or other affiliated organisations. The annual Water Construction Day is a good example of this.

Expertise in core areas

The KIVI Construction and Hydraulic Engineering Division's areas of interest include:

  • River and coastal hydraulic engineering
  • Dry and wet hydraulic engineering
  • Hydraulic structures
  • Dikes-bridges-dams-locks

Cooperation with knowledge partners

Furthermore, the section has contacts with fellow associations at home and abroad. In particular, close ties with Vereniging Stadswerk Nederland, the English Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) and the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) form the core of current contacts in this regard. Furthermore, there are of course close ties with the Technical Universities and their study associations, such as the Society "Practical Study" of Delft University of Technology. This also applies to the KMA - Genie.
