KIVI awards for members of Defence and Security Division
KIVI has a number of awards for members who have shown special merit in the interest of the association.
For members who play or have played an important role for a particular department, this is the award: Member of Merit. Across the association, around 70 people have been awarded this distinction.
The Defence and Security Department has five Members of Merit and one Officer in the Order of Orange-Nassau.

12 April 2023 - Captain at sea bd Jan Wind - Member of Merit
Jan Wind has been a member of the Defence and Security Department (DV) board since April 2006. During this 17-year period, he has held various positions, including eight years as chairman.
Jan has undertaken a large number of initiatives. He started the Politics & Defence Technology working group, which is now no stranger to the Parliamentary Standing Defence Committee. Jan also initiated the annual 'Defence for Engineers' course and plays an important role in organising the annual Kooy Symposium. Under Jan 's inspiring leadership, Defence and Security has grown into one of the most active and successful departments within KIVI.
In addition, Jan shows great commitment to KIVI in a broad sense. Jan chaired the Members' Council Committee for six years and was a member of the Executive Committee from 2020-2023. His achievements include reviving the various Councils within KIVI, the relationship with FEANI (now Engineers Europe) and the Awards Committee. He was chairman of KIVI's Council Science Technology & Society and national delegate to FEANI.
His contribution to the realisation of KIVI's objectives derives not only from his wide-ranging knowledge and experience, but also from the respectful and honourable manner in which he stimulates those around him, answers questions with knowledge and attention, and assists others, solicited or unsolicited - but above all, silently - where help is needed.
With his never-ending commitment and patience, his positive attitude, his successful initiatives, his critical attitude where necessary and especially his many years of service, Jan is an example to many.

13 April 2022 - Ing. Marjolein de Wit-Blok - Member of Merit
Marjolein de Wit has been very active in the Defence and Security Department since 2015. Since 2016 as secretary of the Kooy symposium committee and in 2018 she was appointed second secretary of the department. Within the board, she has been "activities coordinator" since 2020. In this role, Marjolein encourages department board members and others to organise activities in terms of content. She handles coordination, communication and the necessary logistics. She also does this for other major activities, such as annual "Defence for Engineers" course and the Kooy Symposium. During the corona crisis, Marjolein developed a successful concept for short substantive webinars, which is widely used afterwards. Without Marjolein, the department would be able to engage in far fewer activities than is now possible, both in terms of nature and number, All this has earned the department a very high profile both inside and outside KIVI.
The award was presented during the Kooy symposium 2022 by Jan Wind, chairman KIVI Department of Defence and Security.

3 June 2021 - Ir. Peter Rooijmans - Member of Merit
Peter Rooijmans was one of the four initiators of the Kooy symposium in 2001. The motto was 'shared knowledge is double knowledge'. The target group 'Defence, politics, knowledge institutes and business'. A true formula for success.
Since the first edition in 2002, the symposium has been held almost annually. It grew from a mini symposium with a few dozen participants to an annual event attracting 350 or more civilians and military personnel. One of KIVI's biggest annual events and a household name in the defence sector. By far the biggest activity of the Defence and Security Department, together with now 5 partner organisations.
As co-initiator, Peter Rooijmans is the only KIVI member who has remained actively involved in the symposium since its inception. As a member of the symposium committee, he actively contributed to the success of the symposium all those years. Conceptually, substantively and logistically.
The award was presented by Jan Wind, chairman KIVI Department of Defence and Security.
