Prof Dr J.M.J. (Johan) Kooy (1902-1983) was a very important Dutch professor of international ballistics and space travel, mentioned in the same breath as Einstein and Oppenheimer, among others. He was knighted in the Order of the Dutch Lion and was awarded the Médaille d'Astronautique de L'AREA année Astronautique Française at the same time as astronauts Yuri Gagarin and John Glenn.
