Knowledge and networks for defence & national security
The Department of Defence and Security ( DV) of the Royal Institute of Engineers (KIVI) is the professional association for everyone involved in the application of technology for defence and national security. The department offers its members a platform where people working in the defence or security sector can network and exchange knowledge. KIVI DV organises various meetings, excursions and company visits for its members, usually with a topical slant.
The main event is the annual Prof. Kooy symposium. Organised in cooperation with TNO, KVMO, Mars&Mercurius, NLR and APA, the symposium focuses on a different topic each year, always aimed at bringing important technology and technological developments to the attention of politicians and defence leaders. Furthermore, the department annually awards the Prof. Kooy Prize to the best graduate student in the technology field Defence and Security.

Activities
One of the main objectives of KIVI DV is to keep you informed about new developments in technology and equipment for defence and security applications. Lectures, excursions and informal meetings offer the opportunity to gain knowledge, but also to meet colleagues and benefit from their experiences.
At a lecture evening, a particular topic is usually highlighted from three angles: the requirements and needs of the government or future users, relevant trends and developments in the research field and industrial aspects. The choice of themes is made in line with current developments and events as much as possible. Follow this link for an overview, reports and photos.
This year, a number of interesting meetings and activities are again being planned.
Most lectures are organised in the west of the country, while excursions and company visits are throughout the Netherlands.
The activities usually have an open character: non-members (and non-engineers) are also welcome.
