Ground survey

Ground investigation file

Knowledge of the properties of (soft) soil, especially with regard to its load-bearing capacity and the relationship between load and deformation, is important for predicting the consequences of civil engineering activities on and in the subsurface.

Generic knowledge

Reference books, guidance documents and knowledge institutes: there is a lot of knowledge available about soil research in Dutch soils. An outline of some of the key studies, agencies and handbooks from the information available.

Measurement techniques

Many different measurement techniques are available for soil investigations. In the weak Dutch soil, road pressure techniques such as CPT probing are quite useful. Drilling always involves sample disturbance, leading to inaccuracies and uncertainties in the measurement results. Road-pressure (CPT) techniques can offer a solution here.
