Geotextile sand elements in hydraulic engineering

April 2004, this publication was published in cooperation with Rijkswaterstaat, the Dutch Geotextile Organisation, industry and CUR. The aim is to promote the application of these constructions in the Netherlands. Geotextile sand elements are used in various hydraulic engineering structures. These sand elements consist of a closed geotextile, which is usually filled with locally extracted sand: a modern variant of the time-honoured sandbags.

The emphasis of this report is on practical application; an appendix of project descriptions is included. A follow-up publication on design and calculation of these structures is planned in due course.
