Why Geonet?
In the 1990s, it was observed that knowledge flows too little and too slowly to users. Moreover, there were developments that further reinforced the importance of the immediate availability of geotechnical knowledge. Issues such as underground construction, multiple space use and foundation problems such as subsidence due to groundwater level change, drilling under and along foundations and subsidence due to gas extraction. this requires a fast and effective knowledge transfer from researchers to the market and feedback from the market to the researchers' and this position led to the launch of the Geonet website on 22 April 1998.
Purpose of Geonet
Information provision was fragmented because there are many knowledge providers active - and this is still the case anno 2021. Geonet aims to make geotechnical knowledge more quickly and efficiently accessible. Solutions to geotechnical issues should be more widely shared and made applicable.
Initiators
The initiators of Geonet were KIVI Department of Geotechnics, GeoDelft (now Deltares) and the then CUR. In the early years of Delft Cluster, Geonet acted as a knowledge channel for this programme, and in the years 2010 - 2014 the Geo-Impuls programme gave it a substantial boost with a complete renewal of the website.
Contact
Geonet is periodically maintained by web editor Armand van Wijck (Aurora Science Communications) and editor-in-chief Jurjen van Deen (Deltares). For questions and comments, they can be reached at redactie@geonet.nl.
