On construction methods for the substructure of roads on weak soils. Includes method sheets for uniform design methods and design and construction processes.
Handbook of foundation materials in road construction (2014)
This publication presents existing and new knowledge in the field of foundation materials in road construction. Besides the main behavioural characteristics, the link is made between functional requirements and requirements for the structure, material and constituents in the material. Mechanical, durability and environmental properties, design criteria, construction, execution and quality control are also discussed.
Delft Cluster: Innovative road concepts (2007)
These research products focus in particular on the development of the Kyoto road, an environmentally friendly road consisting of modified dredging sludge on wooden piles. This road has numerous environmental advantages over traditional roads on sand. The Delft Cluster research programme (2003-2011) was designed to promote the development and dissemination of knowledge for the ground, road and hydraulic engineering sector.
Continuous Compaction Control (2005)
Continuous Compaction Control (CVC) aims to control the result achieved already during the compaction process. The compaction machine not only has the function of a compactor, but is at the same time the measuring instrument for the induced compaction effect. The report discusses research into the practical potential of Continuous Compaction Monitoring as a means of delivering compacted soil, embankments and road foundations.
Design substructure: guideline drilling techniques (2004)
January 2004 saw the publication of the second version of the Manual for Road Construction, Design Substructure, Guideline for Drilling Techniques, published by the Department of Civil Engineering (DWW) of the Directorate-General for Public Works and Water Management. An earlier edition (1995) was thus superseded. The guideline is mainly intended as normative guidance for the preparation of a (draft) permit. When drawing up the conditions, consultation between Rijkswaterstaat and the pipeline operators is desirable.
Manual Road Construction - Design Substructure
This manual contains a collection of fifteen product method sheets (PMBs) for different construction methods for the substructure of roads on soft ground.
Each PMB describes in detail the design and implementation process for one construction method. This includes aspects such as the principle of the method, advantages and disadvantages, cost estimation, uncertainties and risks, relevant legislation, effects on the existing road and its surroundings and aspects concerning management and maintenance, reconstruction and demolition.
This manual aims for engineering firms and contractors to increasingly use uniform design methods and design and execution processes, which simplifies the review of outsourced work by regional boards of Rijkswaterstaat.
