PREFER for students

Would you like to discover where your career preference lies and know where you stand?

During the PREFER session for students, you will find out together with friends, your study or student association or dorm. Informally, you will discover which engineering role you prefer and which skills you already possess. Because you do this in a group under the guidance of a young engineer, together you will come to new insights about today's and tomorrow's challenges. Because what is the ideal start to your career and how do you go about it? You will find out together.

Core objectives

PREFER's working method for students is based on the PREFER method. In it, we distinguish 2 main questions:

1. Which engineering role do you prefer?
2. What skills do you need and already possess for this?

On the basis of 2 online tests, you get your personal profile. Led by a young engineer who has already had this career start, you will discover together what this means for you and exchange experiences, doubts and challenges. For instance, it may help you to make the right subject, profile or Master's choice, in which way you can discover the career market and together you will do away with typical prejudices about the 'only right career start'. How is the session PREFER for students?

PREFER for students is a 1-2 hour session and is organised by YKE on request; it can be at our premises in The Hague or on location. During this session, you will take 2 tests online and exchange experiences under the guidance of an experienced young engineer, who knows all about the wins and pitfalls of a career start. You will find out after this session that you are not alone at the starting line.

What to expect:

• Access to the PREFER test to gain insight into your engineering role and development direction;
• Exchange of experiences and questions, under the guidance of a young engineer (medior-senior);
• A 1-2 hour session in a group to inspire each other;
• Access to the YKE Growth Programme .

PREFER

What kind of engineer are you?
Using the PREFER test, developed by KU Leuven, TU Delft (partly in collaboration with KIVI) and TU Dublin, you will find out which engineering role suits you best. This provides a good basis for discovering the direction in which you want to develop.

What skills do you possess?
When the engineering role is known, you will take a test that will show to what extent you already possess the skills necessary for this specific role. This gives a good insight into which skills you can best develop.

Who is PREFER for students for?

PREFER for students is aimed in particular at ambitious engineering students who have completed their propaedeutic phase. During your studies, there are several moments when you have to make choices that are going to influence your career. Think, for example, of a profile or Master's choice. This session helps you get more clarity on your preferences, strengths and weaknesses so that you can optimally prepare for the start of your career.

There are no requirements for participation in PREFER for students, other than being an engineering student.
