Portfolio management
Would you like to contribute to social and political issues from a technical perspective?
Then Portfolio Management at YKE is for you. It is very important for YKE to be actively involved in social and political issues. Engineers have a lot of knowledge that can be used to raise social and political issues and suggest possible solutions.
How does Portfolio Management work?
Portfolio Management consists of three parties, being politicians, the Portfolio Manager and KIVI subject experts. As Portfolio Manager at YKE, you are the connecting link between politics and technology and thus the first point of contact within your technical field (portfolio). Portfolio managers actively raise social issues with politicians and ensure that the knowledge of experts within the various KIVI departments finds its way to politics and policy. Depending on the need, reports or working groups can be drawn up as input for political issues. This provides policymakers with factual information on technical-social issues.
Every third Thursday of the month, YKE's Portfolio Managers meet at Het Plein in The Hague to network with politicians and discuss key issues that are, or should be, on the government agenda. Prior to networking, the Portfolio Managers meet at KIVI headquarters where the agenda for the evening is set. Because the discussion takes place as a group, the Portfolio Managers gain perspectives from engineers with diverse backgrounds, further broadening their knowledge.
What to expect:
- Direct involvement in politically relevant issues by receiving and coordinating technical advice requests;
- Collaboration with policy makers and technical experts;
- A valuable network within the engineering community and politics;
- Personal growth in a strategic, connecting role;
- A monthly evening meeting with all Portfolio Managers to support each other, followed by drinks at Het Plein in The Hague.

Who is Portfolio Management for?
Portfolio Management is intended for ambitious engineers, younger than 36 years old, with a broad social interest and a desire to turn technical knowledge into impact. Are you someone who likes to switch between engineering and policy, make connections between engineers and politics, and want to think about current issues at a strategic level? Then this is your chance!
Why at KIVI, why at YKE?
The Royal Institute of Engineers (KIVI, of which YKE is part) connects 15,000 engineers and has been a renowned institute of and for socially engaged engineers since 1847. YKE is committed to engineers under the age of 36. The institute's rich history has put it at the forefront of knowing what engineers want and need.
