YKE Growth Programme

YKE Growth Programme

Would you like to grow in your career and get a better grip on your development?

The YKE Growth Programme will help you do just that. You will discover your preferred engineering role, your skills and where you want to grow. You will go home with a concrete development plan, so you can immediately start with your next step. YKE's Growth Programme encourages participants to start drawing up a Personal Development Plan (PDP). With this development plan, participants get a grip on their personal growth.

Core objectives

The working method of the YKE Growth Programme is based on the philosophy of Chartered and Incorporated Engineering. This defines five core competences:

  1. Knowledge;
  2. Skills;
  3. Leadership;
  4. Communication;
  5. Commitment.

Using these five core competences, a renowned KIVI coach will ensure that you can get the most out of yourself and excel as an engineer. Completion of the YKE Growth Programme enables the participant to join the YKE Talent Programme and prepares the participant for the Chartered and Incorporated Engineering route.

Don't be an actor in your career, be the director!

How does the YKE Growth Programme work?

The YKE Growth Programme is an evening and is organised by YKE twice a year; once in spring and once in autumn. Before the start of the evening, you will be sent home the PREFER test, which you will be required to take. After completing the PREFER test, the results will be presented and you will meet a KIVI coach during the evening programme with whom you will work on your POP. The evening meeting allows participants to discuss their experiences with each other.

What to expect:

  • Access to the PREFER test to gain insight into your engineering role and direction of development;
  • Preparation of a POP, in collaboration with a KIVI coach;
  • An evening meeting with all YKE Growth Programme participants to inspire each other;
  • Access to the YKE Talent Programme and ideal preparation for the Chartered and Incorporated Engineering programme.

Part 1: Exploring

What kind of engineer are you?
Using the PREFER test, developed by KU Leuven, TU Delft (including in collaboration with KIVI) and TU Dublin, you will find out which engineering role suits you best. This provides a good basis for discovering the direction in which you want to develop.

What skills do you possess?
When the engineering role is known, you will take a test that will show to what extent you already possess the skills necessary for this specific role. This gives a good insight into which skills you can best develop.

Part 2: Personal Development Plan

How do I achieve my goals?
This part focuses on the PDP. Based on the test results, you and the other participants, led by a KIVI coach, will discuss which goal you want to achieve and how to get there. You will learn how a good development plan works and how to make one. Of course, you will also immediately start making such a PDP yourself, so that you go home with a concrete blueprint for taking the next step in your career.

After this evening session, you will have learned about the five Chartered/Incorporated Engineering core competencies (Knowledge, Skills, Leadership, Communication, Commitment) and you will be able to set sharper growth goals in your career. By preparing your PDP, you will have a concrete plan to achieve your development goals.

Who is the YKE Growth Programme for?

The YKE Growth Programme is particularly aimed at ambitious engineers and students in the second half of their studies, under 36 years of age. Interested in the YKE Talent Programme or the Chartered and Incorporated Engineering route, then this is the perfect preparation for you. It does not matter what sector you work in or what position you hold. Are you a senior student or (senior) professional and want to join? Then contact YKE. At KIVI, why at YKE?

The Royal Institute of Engineers (KIVI, of which YKE is part) connects 15,000 engineers and has been a renowned institute of and for engineers since 1847. YKE is committed to engineers under the age of 36. Its rich history has given the institute a leading position when it comes to knowing the wants and needs of engineers. To ensure that the Netherlands is and remains technically strong, KIVI runs the Chartered and Incorporated Engineer register as the only one in the Netherlands. With this, engineers affiliated with KIVI are offered both a national and international network and receive a quality mark that demonstrates their professional competence and continuous professional development, which strengthens their position with (inter)national assignments and employers. The YKE Growth Programme enables you to join the YKE Talent Programme; the ideal springboard to the Chartered and Incorporated Engineering route.
