About YKE

Young KIVI Engineers is the place for young engineers

As part of the Royal Institute of Engineers (KIVI) with 15,000 members and more than 300 activities a year, the Young KIVI Engineers (YKE) department represents engineers up to the age of 36; the first career years in which they progress from junior to medior and even senior engineer. This important stage in each engineer's career requires specific development.

Welcome to KIVI, welcome to YKE

Our mission

Since its inception in 2004, YKE has been dedicated to helping young engineers by inspiring, connecting and supporting them in their careers. YKE does this through three pillars:

  1. We support the development of professional knowledge;
  2. We facilitate growing in personal skills;
  3. We build a network relevant to the young engineers of today and tomorrow.

"YKE gives young engineers a voice again, shows the importance of an engineer's work and builds a young network in which we bring education, government and industry closer together."

ir. Celina van den BankChairman YKE, Construction engineer

New plans

At the KIVI New Year's Reception 2024, the new plans for the department were presented, in which new substance was given to the three pillars:

  1. Subject knowledge: This is gathered and published by Portfolio Managers, so that YKE members can benefit from it;
  2. Personal development: YKE offers the YKE Growth Programme and the YKE Talent Programme, as well as master classes, so that young engineers can get a better grip on their development;
  3. Network: YKE offers its members a strong network through young engineers' associations throughout The Netherlands and Europe actively connecting them.

Organisation

To carry out its work as effectively as possible, YKE uses an organisational structure. YKE has a board, committees and a Portfolio Management team.

Board: The board is responsible for YKE's policies and frameworks. Attached to the board is a committee member, who has a seat on the membership council committee on behalf of the board and its supporters. The Chairman of YKE is ultimately responsible for the Board, Commissions, and Portfolio Management.

Committees: Committees are bodies that deal with specific topics. YKE currently has three committees, being the Education Committee, the Recruitment Committee and the Activities Committee.

The Education Committee is the executive branch for YKE's education programmes within the personal development pillar. The Education Committee thus provides the content and implementation of the YKE Growth Programme, the YKE Talent Programme and the Masterclasses.

The Recruitment Committee focuses on recruiting members, with the aim of creating the most active constituency possible.

The Activities Committee organises a variety of events and networking meetings for young engineers. From company visits and conferences to get-togethers and sports activities.

Each committee has a Chairman, who ensures that the board's goals and policies are coordinated with the committees, and general committee members.

Portfolio Managers: The Portfolio Managers are part of YKE and deal with Portfolio Management within the expertise pillar. Portfolio Managers are the connecting link between the political and social environment from YKE and act as the first point of contact in their technical field and the knowledge from KIVI. The Portfolio Management team consists of a Chairman Portfolio Managers, Secretary Portfolio Managers and the Portfolio Managers themselves. Communication between the board and the Portfolio Management team is through the Chairman Portfolio Managers and the Chairman of YKE. The Chairman Portfolio Managers is responsible for the Portfolio Management team.
